Getting started in pickleball
You can buy a paddle in lots of places these days and you should be able to find one for ~ $50 (or less if you shop around). There are nice tennis shops in Boulder that are now carrying a large selection of pickleball paddles in addition to all their usual tennis stuff. And while you are buying your paddle, buy a couple of cheap balls (onyx perhaps). A pickleball doesn't bounce like a tennis ball and the paddle is shorter than a tennis racket. It will help immensely to find a tennis backboard (or solid wall) and hit balls against it. This will help you get used to actually hitting the ball and significantly reduce frustration on the court with actually being able to hit the ball.
